Even the Sea | Eleanor Livingstone
Info
Eleanor Livingstone’s Even the Sea (Red Squirrel Press) was shortlisted for the 2010 inaugural London New Poetry Award for first collections. Selections of poems from the volume have been translated into six other languages. This new and revised edition is issued at the same time as a new poetry pamphlet Surprising the Misses McRuvie (Red Squirrel, 2023). Eleanor Livingstone was Festival Director of StAnza, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, from 2010 to 2021. She has also worked as a paralegal, and as a part-time creative writing tutor with the WEA and other adult education providers.
The citation from the London New Poetry Award judges commented on Eleanor Livingstone’s ‘quiet, restrained and perfectly observed poems’. They ‘loved the painterly sense of coolness and control that inhabits each poem’ and they were impressed not only by her ability ‘to capture places and people’ but also by ‘her attunement to the movement of nature and the nature of movement.’
—Daljit Nagra, Tamar Yoseloff & Adam O’Riordan, London New Poetry Award, Judges’ Report, 2010
‘A confident and memorable collection in which every poem earns its keep. A triumph.’
—Peter Bennet, Other PoetryOrders outside UK
