Information
Matthew Griffiths is a copy-editor specialising in the built environment, which means he mostly tries to make surveyors' professional writing read professionally. He is the author of the pamphlet How to be Late and the novel Bernice Summerfield: The Weather on Versimmon, while his poems have appeared in such magazines as Anon, The Dark Horse, Stand, The Delinquent and The Wolf. He also has a PhD in poetry and climate change, and gets another pound every time someone looks at him blankly and says, 'I'm sorry, did you say poetry and climate change?'
How to be Late, Matthew Griffiths' first appearance, has proved an auspicious beginning. His exciting new collection shows a greater range in his imaginitive observation, often powerful in its abilitiy to startle with an original image or unexpected idea. Despite moments of humour and playfulness, Griffith's vision, though not always bleak, is never cosy or comfortable. — Douglas Dunn
