Matthew Macdonald was born in the Elsie Inglis hospital on the Southside of Edinburgh and has lived there his whole life (Edinburgh, not the hospital). He first travelled to the family homes on Harris and Lewis when he was very young and has been in love with both parts of Scotland since then. His dual heritage is why being near the sea calms him.

 

His poetry has been published in The Inkwell, Drey, and several editions of the Blind Poetics Collection, and will appear in the forthcoming Ode To... anthology from Forward Poetry. Matthew has performed at venues in Edinburgh, Glasgow, St. Andrews, Newcastle, and South Shields, and was runner up in the Third Annual James Kirkup Memorial Poetry competition 2012.
